Process

Everyone has different needs, so I offer a flexible bespoke garden design service to suit you. Understanding what you want to achieve from your garden can enable me to design a garden tailored to your taste, needs and budget.

The starting point is the initial consultation which is completely free of charge. It is an opportunity to meet, see your garden and talk through your ambitions. At the meeting I will show you a full-scale design and talk through the process of going from drawing to garden. After this visit I can provide you with a tailored consultation for the design you require.

If you choose to go ahead then I will come out and do a full site survey. This involves taking full measurements of the garden and the footprint of the house because the design of the garden needs to work with the house as you will spend more time looking at your garden from inside, than actually sitting in it.

Once I have all the measurements, details of plants in the garden and a better understanding of its aspect and nature of the soil, I can then produce a full design for you. This will show you where all the features are in the garden, where the borders are and the size and shape of them and the layout of the patio and lawn.

 All my designs are done by hand and not on a computer. The first design is always colour-rendered as it helps bring the design to life.

When you receive your colour rendered plan you will also receive a black and white copy. This is for you to make notes on so that I can make any changes to the design for you.

Included in the price is the cost of doing one revised plan based on your feedback and an estimate on the cost of building the garden.

Alongside the design, I will give you a planting schedule. This will tell you about the different plants I recommend.

You will also receive a book explaining how I have put the planting schedule together with pictures of some of the key plants used.

Once we are happy with the design, I can arrange for quotations to have it built for you or you can build your own garden or use your own landscaper. If you choose to build your own garden, I will spray out the design on the ground to help you translate the plan to reality.

When the garden is built, I can come back and plant it up or help you plant it by sourcing the plants for you and setting them out as you might want to do the planting yourself, once the hard work has been done. I will then provide a follow up consultation, usually between 6 – 12 months after planting to check everything is going to plan and answer any queries you have on maintenance and keeping your garden looking good.
