Beautiful gardens are a labour of love and the results of a creative process that begins long before a spade first touches the soil.
You may have been carrying an image of your dream garden in your head for a long time.
Perhaps you have always wanted a sustainable garden that provides fresh fruit and vegetables, an outdoor family space for games and relaxation or even a traditional English cottage garden with fragrant flowers wafting in a gentle breeze. Whatever your dream garden design is, we can turn it into reality.
Our garden designer, Sam McKay, is a highly qualified and experienced professional who is always inspired by the natural world. She loves collaborating with owners during the garden design process to create an outdoor space that complements their lifestyles and provides years of enjoyment.

The Garden Design Process
A garden design project progresses from concept to a finished garden through several stages.
Initial consultation
The initial consultation with a client is essential to discovering your aspirations for your outside space. We like to know how you plan to use the area and the types of garden features and planting you would enjoy.
It is also important for us to know how much time and effort you can devote to your garden. Busy people may love their gardens but struggle to find time to care for high-maintenance plantings and lawns. Your garden should be a pleasure, not a liability, and a low-maintenance scheme can give as much year-round pleasure as a garden filled with tender plants.
On the other hand, if you are the type of person who is always keen to get your hands dirty, we will be delighted to design an exciting and ambitious garden for you.
We will show you examples of previous garden design projects to inspire you.
The Garden Visit
Before we can start planning your garden, we need to visit the site to assess the soil and determine the amount of sun and shade it receives. These variables need to be factored into the design, as they affect the types of plants we use and their locations.
Based on our visit and initial survey of your garden, we will develop a garden concept for your consideration.
The Full Site Survey
If you decide to go ahead, we will return to your garden to take accurate measurements and start working on your full design.
The Planning and Design Process
Once we have all the necessary information about your requirements and garden, we will begin planning.
Sam creates all her designs by hand, and the first design will be in full colour to show you what your completed garden will look like.
You will also receive a black-and-white version for your notes and comments. If you have any feedback, the design can be changed to reflect your ideas. You will also receive a planting schedule detailing all the plants selected for your garden.
Clients are also provided with a planting book to accompany the design. The book contains useful information about the suggested plants and explains why they have been chosen for your garden.
Creation of Hard Landscaping
We can provide you with a quotation for hard landscaping features like patios or walls. However, some of our garden design clients choose to take the design and create the hard landscaping features themselves or with a trusted landscaper. We will spray out the new design on the ground to help with the process.
Planting your garden
Once hard-standing and built features have been completed, the planting can begin.
We can source high-quality plants for you. Some of our clients like to plant the new scheme themselves, but we are happy to provide advice or to complete this part of the process if preferred.
Follow-up Consultation
We will return to your garden 6 – 12 months after planting to see how it is settling in and offer any advice you may need on maintaining the garden design.
