In today’s busy world, many people have limited time to devote to maintaining a traditional garden. However, this does not mean your garden has to be boring. All the gardens in these pictures have been designed to need little maintenance.
I have over 20 years’ experience in planting low maintenance gardens. I use plants that are right for where you live, require minimal watering, pruning, and feeding. All the plants I select are drought resistant, hardy in our northern colder and wet winters and disease resistant.
To keep pruning and costs to a minimum I use perennials rather than annuals. Annuals need replanting every year, as they will not survive the damp winter, are not frost hardy and are easily damaged by the wind. So, I use perennials that come back year after year, have a long season of interest. I use many with seed heads so that they provide interest and structure during the winter.
Low maintenance gardens can be designed in a variety of styles, but at their essence is a simplified design. Together we focus on what you really need in the garden, take away all the unnecessary clutter which in turn gives you a garden that is pleasing to look at and easy to maintain.
All borders are mulch to supress weeds and cut down on watering.
The popularity of my low maintenance gardens stems from their ability to provide attractive, functional outdoor spaces that require minimal time, effort, and resources to maintain, allowing my clients to enjoy their gardens without feeling overwhelmed by upkeep tasks.
